21st Century Schools, Here we come!

Are 21st Century schools so far away from public schools that it’s hard for teachers and educators to imagine? Now don’t get me wrong, teachers want it, but how to get there is the challenge. Teachers are practitioners not theorist. Teachers put the plan into motion, but to tell you why… Umm we’ll leave that to the professors. The question still remains, “How do we promote literacy beyond reading, writing and math from what we learned as students growing up? We must take full advantage of technology and multimedia, offer global perspectives while solving real world challenges to meet this demand.

"Are public schools becoming dangerously irrelevant,” Scott McLeod would say? It’s funny that now literacy includes topics such as finances, media, social/emotional development, physical fitness, ecology, and creativity right so… how do you fit this in a 6 ½-7 hour day? OK, YES there needs to be immediate reform from local school sites to district networks on new initiatives. The question is, “How do we prepare our students for their future.”  Our next posts will come from a teacher’s perspective. My goal is for networks to reach further than their grasp! In future post we will look over themes, lesson plans, data, and supports needed for YOU the teacher to be successful! Yes, this will be a long grueling task. So sit back and get ready to try new things as well as share new adventures because in the end, I don’t want to become irrelevant, I’m ready for a change!
