Have you ever heard of the new AltSchool?
AltSchool is a new school this year with a mission of combining Montessori and a School of One. NPR calls it the school for 2030. Who would have thought of this amazing thing, well former Google start-up Max Ventilla did! The AltSchool is able to meet the needs of individual students while supporting small learning communities. With enough capital your children can attend, the cost of this utopian brick and mortar is 20,000 a year for tuition.AltSchool takes bits and pieces from our current schools and combines these ideas into one. Three examples I can think of are the multiage classroom which stems from Montessori schools, the playlist for individual students comes from the School of One, and small collaborative learning communities stem from the traditional public school. The curriculum includes project-based assignments, with real-world lessons that push and challenge each student. With frequent visits to the Walt Disney Museum and the Mission Science Workshop they have already accessed an outside continuum of learning, potential job market in the future, and the possible STEM career path. The AltSchool encourages their students to become problem seekers while learning beyond subjects. So far AltSchool is looking to launch schools in Palo Alto, Ca and Brooklyn, NY, says Anya Kamenetz. The cost hasn’t stopped anyone from applying given that there are only about 150 spots; their application numbers were 677 the first year in existence. I would love to send my children there; I know they would have an amazing experience and future. Take a look:[embed]https://youtu.be/WuZVvboncIY[/embed]
