What are the benefits of Virtual Reality?
Introducing virtual reality to students who are just kids can be overwhelming both to the student and the teacher. However, if harnessed properly, virtual reality can be a great lesson aid in the classroom, which can help to make learning better and more fun. Before we begin to explore the world of virtual reality and its relevance to K-6 students, we need to first understand what virtual reality is and the K-6 educational program.Normally, we are being thought that as humans, we have five senses. Well this is true but it does not end there. There are other sensory glands that tries to send information to our brain especially as concerns our environment. Virtual means near and reality is simply what we experience. Virtual reality also can be generated using 3-D computer simulations or environment. Therefore, virtual reality is the interaction and manipulation of a person with a 3-D computer generated environment. On the other hand, the K-6 educational system refers to a program where students attend classes from kindergarten through sixth grade. Putting all of these into perspective, virtual reality in K-6 classrooms refer to using computer generated environments and graphics to educate students through interaction and improve their imaginative capabilities. Some of the reasons to indulge K-6 students in virtual reality are as follows:
Interaction
Having a virtual classroom with students help to improve how they work together and interact with each other. Virtual reality gives them a platform where they can work together as a team, therefore sharing the same purpose, goals, ambitions and drive. Even if they have very huge differences in the convectional classroom settings, I strongly believe that these will not be carried to the virtual world where they can fulfill their fantasies. In the long run, it will help class members to bond better with themselves.
Less risk, more reward
In the convectional classroom, more emphasis is laid on failure than success - to be very honest. But with virtual reality, students’ failure is rarely noticeable, as they are just encouraged to begin again, meanwhile, success can be so rewarding. This will help boost their morale and make them study more thereby improving their brain and minds.
Excursions
Just like field trips can be done in real life, so also can it be done using virtual reality. In fact, it is even better. Students can go back in time and learn stuff that happened many years ago and live the experience as if they existed then. I can guarantee you that no other scientific medium can make this possible except for virtual reality.
Practical
Every student has a dream. They want to become one professional or the other. With virtual reality, you can take them into the worlds of their dreams, and this time, no controlled environment as they are there but not really there. So they can venture into places that in reality would have been deemed dangerous or risky. A kid who wants to be an engineer will explore any department without a hard-hat, because really, nothing will fall on his or her head!In conclusion, the benefits of using virtual reality as learning aid for K-6 students is really necessary. Technological advancement is on the high now and the earlier students are introduced to it, the better. K-6 students using virtual reality will make the teacher’s work easier, have a long lasting effect on the student and benefit the society eventually.Check out Beyond the Frame: The New Classroom:[embed]https://youtu.be/zGGVYT0cMHg[/embed]
